Background
On October 28th, 1914, a legend was born. Growing up for Dr. Salk was very hard as he and his family were poor. However, poor or not, getting good grades and doing good in school was a priority in the Salk family. After graduating high school, Salk went to the City College of New York, where he got his bachelor's degree in science. That wasn't enough however, he went on to get his Medical Degree from New York University in 1939. Salk then earned a fellowship at the University of Michigan, where he studied a vaccine for the flu virus.
